Temple is a picturesque New England village. A strong sense of community is alive today in Temple and is evident when one visits the annual Harvest Festival held each September on the village green, or the lighting of the town Christmas tree where residents gather together to sip cocoa and sing carols. Temple’s claim to fame is that is it home to the oldest organized town band in the United States, the Temple Town Band. A perk of being a Temple resident is the free snowplowing of each and every driveway provided by the town, a feature that is greatly appreciated during our long New England winters.

Temple’s downtown area consists of the town green around which are situated the post office, a general store, an inn, the congregational church, the town hall, Mansfield Public Library and several
lovely colonial homes. The Temple Elementary School and the municipal building holding the town offices, fire department and police department are located just a short distance from the village center on Route 45. Easily accessible by Routes 101 and 45, Temple is just 67 miles from Boston, MA., 19 miles from Fitchburg, MA, 23 miles from Nashua NH and just 29 miles from Manchester NH.
The public schools serving the town are the Temple Elementary School in Temple (grades K-5) and the South Meadow School (grades 6-8) and the Contoocook Valley Regional High School (known as ConVal High School), (grades 9-12) both in Peterborough.
