Greenfield, New Hampshire

Greenfield is a quiet residential and farming community on the eastern side of the Monadnock Region. Its picturesque New England village has views of Mount Monadnock and is graced by lovely colonial homes, the Town Meeting House, several small businesses including a café and gift shop, a small grocery store/gas, a historic inn station, and the Greenfield Town Offices. Accessed by Routes 31 and 136, Greenfield is approximately 40 minutes from Nashua, Manchester and Keene, 10 minutes from Peterborough and just over an hour to Boston.

Incorporated in 1791, Greenfield was originally part of the town of Lyndeborough and was known as “Lyndeborough Addition”. The Town Meeting House is the oldest meeting house in New Hampshire which is also a Church, and serves as a place for residents to worship, vote, and gather for community activities. Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center, a mountaintop residential rehabilitation center, is one of the town’s main employers and has been serving the needs of individuals with disabilities since 1944.

Greenfield, rich in beauty and scenery, has three lakes and offers access to many hiking trails and recreation areas. The Wapack Trail, one of the oldest interstate trails in the Northeast, runs 21 miles from North Pack in Greenfield to Mount Watatic in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. Greenfield State Park on Otter Lake is popular with both residents and visitors for swimming, boating and camping. Sunset Lake and Zephyr Lake both have swimming beaches and boat launches which are open to Greenfield residents. Oak Park, the town recreation park, has playing fields, a playground, concession stand and bathrooms, and is the site of practices and games for local sports teams and also the site of annual events and festivities such as the Blue-B-Cue and the annual Scottish Games. Greenfield is also situated close to Crotched Mountain Ski Area a popular downhill ski area and snowboard park.

Students attend Greenfield Elementary School (grades K-4) and South Meadow Middle School (grades 5-8) and ConVal High School (grades 9-12) in Peterborough.
